I dragged all three kids to Walgreens today after school. They almost tore the place down (well, actually my 5-year-old got one of those candy sticks with a spinning fan caught in her hair and had to have it cut out). And after I got them out of the store with our purchases, I had to go back in to get $4.75 worth of refunds for coupons that didn’t come off the first time.
But the agony was worth it, because I got all this for $10.71 + tax. Here’s how:
2 Kleenex 4-packs $4 each/$8 total
6-count Scott Naturals paper towels $5
3 Chicken of the Sea tuna 69 cents each/$2.07 total
Sun-Maid raisins $2.29 (the ad said 2/$4 but I didn’t realize I had to buy 2, oops)
Suave shampoo and conditioner $1 each/$2 total
Dawn dish soap $.99 each/$1.98 total
TOTAL BEFORE COUPONS: $21.34
I used these store coupons from the September Walgreens booklet, found at the front of the store:
$1 off Kleenex (took off $2 for two packs), $1 off Scott towels, $.69 tuna
I used these manufacturer’s coupons: $.50/3-pack or larger and $.40/3-pack or larger Kleenex from the 8/12 SmartSource coupon insert, $1.25 off Scott Naturals (I was able to print two of those by signing up here and sharing the site with three email addresses), and two $.75/1 Dawn coupons from the 8/26 P&G insert. The Dawn coupons were for Hand Renewal or various other fancier varieties, but since my store doesn’t carry any of those they offered to substitute plain blue Dawn.
TOTAL COUPON VALUE: $6.65
After I paid, I received two $2 Register Rewards coupons, $2 for the Suave and $2 for the Kleenex.
TOTAL REGISTER REWARDS: $4
$21.34 – $6.65 – $4 = $10.69
This means that the Kleenex was 39 cents per box, and the paper towels were 46 cents per roll. Not bad, especially since we were out!
There is another hot deal at Walgreens this week: two Cottonelle toilet paper 12-packs for $5 after coupons and Register Rewards, or 21 cents per roll.
I didn’t do that one because I was trying to get free Cottonelle wipes with the same offer — I had read that you could get three 10-packs of those for 99 cents apiece and get the $3 RR, making them free. That didn’t work at all. The wipes rang up as $1.49 each, not 99 cents, and I didn’t get the $3 RR. So I’ll be returning those and buying two packs of toilet paper on my next visit.
